BSC Glasgow......................4
South Region Challenge Cup

A HECTIC final 10 minutes, which included three penalties, saw BSC Glasgow advance to the second round of the South Region Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Hosts Heriot Watt University took the lead within two minutes but a much-improved second half performance saw BSC dominate the rest of the tie.

Robert Jones returned to goalscoring form, picking up a double, with Tom Woods and Aidan Ferris also adding to their tally for their season.

Mark Dryden returned to captain the side, replacing Jamie Cunningham, as BSC looked to get off to a good start in the cup they lifted the trophy in 2015.

It was a nightmare start for BSC, however, as Elliot Sutherland picked up in a mistake in the Glasgow final third before driving in and finding teammate Christopher Donnelly inside the six yard box to fire home.

The rest of the first half proved to be frustrating for Mark Adams’ side, with a solid block of students proving hard to break down.

Jones did look in the mood early, with an excellent effort from an overhead kick well palmed away by impressive goalkeeper Craig Saunders.

He and Ferris then both had chances to equalise, but the hosts went in ahead.

It didn’t take long in the second half for that to change, however, as Woods netted for the third game in the row with another curling finish.

And BSC were ahead just after the hour mark as Jones received a big switch from Gerard Traynor, before cutting inside and smacking a strike across Saunders into the left side of the goal.

The visitors then grabbed the third from the spot as Ferris was taken down in the box by centre back Adam Woolven, who received a booking.

Ferris stepped up and calmed sent Saunders the wrong way for 3-1.

But the hosts looked to make it a nervous final five minutes with a penalty of their own.

Substitute Max Allison beat Joe Wilton to a long loose ball and took contact from the BSC keeper. Anton Dowds smashed the ball down the middle to reduce the deficit.

But BSC won a penalty late on with Jones stepping up this time, calmly slotting down the middle in the final action of the game and set up a second round tie with Abbey Vale next month.

Up next, however, is the visit of Highland League side Rothes FC to the Indodrill Stadium as BSC make their second Scottish Cup appearance.
